summer firsts

For most of last summer, Colden was still a newborn. He seemed far to little and fragile to experiment with. This summer however, trying new things are his jam. Every day this kid experiences a brand new first. Here are a season's worth of photos chronicling Colden's summer adventures so far. Enjoy.

WATER BABY

Look at that belly! Colden finally outgrew something!

SMILES IN THE PARK

Don't let this sweet smirk fool you, Colden still hates the swing.

Post farmers' market picnic with daddy and blueberries: two of Colden's favorite things.

Look at me, mommy!

Going down this bumpy slide with Grandma = lots of guaranteed giggles.

Whose idea was it to dress him in white pants? Bottoms be gone.

FIRST DENTIST APT

It's wild to think of how fast time is passing, and how much Colden has grown this summer alone. I'm so thankful we have such a beautiful and healthy little boy. I cherish all of the family firsts we've been lucky enough to experience together and cannot wait for what's in store.

PGA Championship - 2013

This weekend we loaded up the car and headed east for the 95th annual PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester. What a idyllic setting- the surrounding neighborhood around the course (which on its own is beautiful) is seriously drool-worthy. It was only icing on the course that it was a beautiful 72 degrees with zero humidity, too.

Colden loved Oak Hill. The crowds and the action, especially. This kid takes in all the energy that only the largest of crowds have to give. Within about an hour of arriving however, it was naptime...and there were way too many things to look at to even think about snoozing. This was going to get hairy. Babies and sporting events that require brief periods of complete silence just don't mix.

We made our way towards the driving range where a few squeaks and cries would go unnoticed, or at least would be spared the nary glare. As Matt stood, swayed, and bum patted, then swayed and patted more- before our eyes Colden had fallen fast asleep in the middle of the PGA Championship. YES!

After a fairly seamless transfer into our fully reclined umbrella stroller, we passed through several holes and even managed to get an up close view of Tiger hitting a tree on hole 14. Post-scandal, I just can't root for him the same way.

With 45 minute snooze, and a full coconut yogurt digesting, Colden was bright eyed and waving to his fans. I love this photo, and hope that it's only the beginning of many years of golf for our sweet boy. Until the next major!

For good measure, here's proof from the PGA website that I was there...

explosion of cute

Colden loves to try new foods. He lets us know right away when he dislikes something, which is most often the case. It's rare when he tries something for the first time, and absolutely loves it. The exception happened just a few days ago- when he was looking so longingly at the frozen treat I was devouring, that I couldn't help but offer him a bite...or two.

THE ICE CREAM SANDWICH as told by Colden Matthew

WHAT IS THAT?? More please.

Ohh just let me hold me it already.

Why is it so far away from my face?

Fine. If I have to lean in for more, I will.

That thing is AMAZING!

chambray twinkies

They say that you naturally dress your children in the colors and styles that you like. Lately, Colden and I have been dressing a lot a like, and I'm perfectly OK with that. As long as we're on trend, right? Enter: the chambray shirt. This fantastic item of apparel made it's debut with the railroad workers back in the 1800's  (Levi Strauss, anyone?). It was all the rage in the late ninety's, but back then it was simply referred to as 'denim'. Fast forward to present day and the softer, more modern form is the current cat's meow. I hate cats, but I love chambray. And so does Colden.
