chevron spotting

It all started with this pouf (in pool blue) and a can of Benjamin Moore's Stonington Gray paint.

I forced Matt to coat the walls not once or twice, but three times as we had a hell of a hiccup choosing the right shade of grey. '50 shades' doesn't even come close to how many swatches I had in the running. Thankfully, we landed on Stonington (which, in my opinion is the perfect shade of grey), and haven't looked back since.

I drew inspiration for the aesthetics of Colden's nursery from Pinterest, Project Nursery, Etsy, and the countless baby blogs I follow (or should I say the ones I'm addicted to). One thing stuck out on my pattern board almost immediately: chevron. Chevron, chevron, chevron. And in particular, grey chevron. I couldn't get enough of it. Fast forward nine plus months, and I realize the chevron trend bubble is about to burst, but I'm still in love with it. And so is Colden...

Despite my chevron obsession, I tried to keep the nursery theme-less. I change my mind so frequently, I didn't want to commit to a single animal, color, crib bedding set, etc. Although, I love that we have an awesome giraffe theme going amongst Colden's toys and clothes. Okay, theme-less with children is difficult. Who am I kidding? One thing I knew for sure, was that I wanted to incorporate some kind of a tree. Does that mean the nursery is nature themed? If so, I'll take it. Just call me Mother Nature.

Regarding the overall look, I aimed to create a modern, clean, crisp, and inviting space. Think light, and bright. White furniture, and a soft color palette. Kitchy artwork. Handmade textiles. Plus the perfect tree. And I didn't want it to be overly baby. I wanted sweet. There is a difference.

If only this was real Eames...

Although I've made great strides, Colden's nursery remains unfinished. I'm hung up on the curtains, pun intended. Sweet Grammy lovingly made the existing curtains from a gorgeous green Ikea stripe- but my heart still yearns for chevron, and the turquoise geometrical pattern pictured. I'm thinking a delightful roman shade for our next go around.
Stay tuned...

Here's the rub. Is the creative process ever really finished?

My procrastination in finishing the nursery stems from the fact that our master bedroom resides on a separate level from the rest of the bedrooms in our house. We have an attached morning room off the master which currently serves as his pseudo nursery- a fantastic space that suits our needs for Colden to a T. I say that with apprehension, because I know at some point he will outgrow the space, and the time will come to move him into his real nursery. Upstairs. On a completely different level.

At nearly seven months young, I'm still not ready to leave my sweet babe by himself.

Until that day comes, I'm on the hunt for a super sweet chevron rug. To complete my theme-less chevron, giraffe, and nature inspired nursery, of course.
