bananas

Welp, Colden has officially started solids. Despite a hypersensitive gag reflex (that doesn't appear to be going away any time soon), Matt and I dove right in to the new land of squishy foods, tiny spoons, and giant messes. We're taking a very balanced approach in that we're trying both puréed foods, in addition to baby led weaning; the latter offering a more holistic way of introducing solids once baby is ready to wean from the breast and or bottle. The goal for Colden of course is to ultimately self-feed, without choking.

To kick things off, we started with what else, but: B-A-N-A-N-A-S! First we gave him the entire banana to play with, gnaw on, and overall get acquainted with. Going right to the mouth, I think he really enjoyed the touch, feel, and taste of the raw banana. Plus he was in control of what went where (or at least he tried to be!).

With most of Colden's 'naner fed to the floor, I whipped up a baby banana smoothie and offered it up on a spoon.

I think his smack of the lips and sweet little 'mmmmm' say it all.

Up next: pears, avocado, squash, and so on. The only thing I'm not looking forward to are the diapers. They really do change once you start solids, and we're just at bananas. Gulp.

Happy eating.
